Frequently asked questions
User experience (UX) design is the process of designing a good user experience by making, creating, and organising the interfaces people interact with daily, like mobile apps, websites, smart watches, and physical products.
UX designers focus on the experience that people have while using products like websites, apps, and physical objects. UX designers make those everyday interactions more useful, usable, and accessible to users. The role of an entry-level UX designer might include coming up with ideas to address user problems, conducting research with users, and designing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
UX (user experience) design is the process of designing a good user experience by making, creating, and organising the interfaces people interact with, including websites, apps, and products. UI (user interface) design focuses on the graphical interface that users interact with and how it works and responds to users, including navigational elements such as menus, buttons, and icons.
A UX designer learns skills to make user interactions with websites, mobile apps, and physical products more usable, equitable, enjoyable, and useful. UX design skills include the ability to…
- Empathise with users to understand their needs and pain points
- Create empathy maps, personas, user stories, and user journey maps to understand user needs
- Develop problem statements to define user needs
- Generate ideas for possible solutions to user problems
- Build wireframes and prototypes
- Conduct UX research
- Create designs and prototypes
As the digital world continues to expand, companies are recognising that good user experience is a necessity, which has led to UX design being a high-growth and in-demand field. UX designers spend their time making, creating, and organising the interfaces people interact with daily, like mobile apps, websites, smart watches, and physical products. Their work ensures that these interfaces are easier and more enjoyable to use.
The Google UX Design Certificate is for anyone with an interest in helping to create better experiences for users of apps, websites, and physical products. No prior experience with design or specific tool is required for the Google UX Design Certificate.
When you enrol in the Google UX Design Certificate, you'll explore the design process, including empathising with users, defining their pain points, coming up with ideas for design solutions, creating wireframes and prototypes, and testing designs to get feedback.
You'll learn these job-ready skills in our certificate program through interactive content (discussion prompts, quizzes, and activities) in under six months, with 5-10 hours of study a week. Along the way, you'll work through a curriculum designed with input from industry leaders and top employers, like Figma, Adobe XD, Deloitte, Cognizant and Accenture. You'll even create a portfolio that includes three projects to share with potential employers to showcase the skills you learned in this program.
After you've graduated from the program, you'll have access to career resources and be connected directly with employers hiring for open entry-level roles in UX design.
Figma and Adobe XD are the design tools taught in the Google UX Design Certificate program. Spreadsheets, word processing applications, and presentation applications will also be used.
