For Institutions
- Institutions receive no-cost licenses for Google AI training courses and Google Career Certificates to offer to their students, faculty, and staff.
- To gain access, administrators should complete the sign-up form. Each institution will then manage access for its students and faculty to all available Certificates and AI courses.
For Education Users (students, faculty, and staff)
- Individuals can access Gemini for Education and NotebookLM at no cost using their school-issued Google account.
- If your institution uses a different productivity suite, an administrator simply needs to sign up for Education Fundamentals to enable access (there is no requirement to switch your primary productivity suite).
- To get started, speak with an expert.
Education Fundamentals includes:
- Gemini for Education (a custom-built version of the Gemini app for education) and NotebookLM: AI assistants with enterprise-grade data protection
- Gemini in Classroom: AI-powered tools for teaching and learning
- Collaboration with Classroom, Vids, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Gmail, Drive, Meet, Sites, Chat, and Calendar
- Security and administrative tools in the Google Admin console
- 100 TB of pooled cloud storage shared by your organization
1. Scope of Service and Eligibility
The Google AI for Education Accelerator provides each member institution access to a managed pool of concurrent licenses for Google Career Certificates, AI courses, and specializations.
- Eligible users: Access is limited to currently enrolled students, current faculty, and staff.
- Alumni access: Access does not automatically extend to alumni. Google retains sole discretion to grant exceptions for alumni access. Institutions wishing to discuss eligibility or request permission for alumni must contact the Google team (aiforeduaccelerator@google.com).
- Institutional governance: The institution determines the educational framework for license distribution, specifically identifying whether programs are offered as curricular (e.g., degree-aligned, credit for prior learning, etc.) or co-curricular (e.g., professional development, continuing education, student orgs, career services, etc.).
2. Mandatory Institutional Management and Enrollment
The institution is solely responsible for actively administering, allocating, and recovering and re-distributing its 500 concurrent licenses.
- Data collection: To distribute licenses via the Coursera platform, the institution must establish a mechanism (e.g., a microsite or registration form) to collect learner names and email addresses. These may be institutional or personal, depending on the institution's preference for user access.
-
Program duration and rotation: Completion times vary significantly by program. The institution should manage expectations accordingly.
- Google AI courses: ~6-10 hours of engagement.
- Google specializations: ~6 to 12 hours of engagement.
- Google Career Certificates: ~100 hours of engagement.
- Inactivity recovery: Any learner who has not engaged with their assigned coursework for a period of three consecutive months is classified as "inactive." The institution is required to reassign these licenses to new users to maintain pool health and efficiency.
3. Term duration
All training licenses allocations under the Google AI for Education Accelerator are valid through December 31, 2027.
4. Expansion and eligibility inquiries
The Google AI for Education Accelerator is designed to scale with verified institutional demand and program success.
- Utilization threshold: Requests for license allocations beyond the initial 500 seats will only be considered once the institution demonstrates a 90% active utilization rate (450 licenses).
- Audit of inactivity: Google will not provide supplemental licenses if the current pool contains a significant number of "inactive" learners. The institution must demonstrate that it has cleared inactive users before an expansion is granted.
- Contact information: To submit a formal expansion plan beyond 500 licenses or discuss training more than 500 concurrent users before the 90% utilization rate is met, the institution must contact aiforeduaccelerator@google.com.
