The Google AI for Healthcare Professionals Certificate is designed for anyone working across the healthcare ecosystem who wants to learn how to use AI safely, responsibly, and effectively in their day-to-day work. This includes frontline healthcare professionals (e.g. physicians, nurses, psychologists, therapists and social workers, pharmacists, etc.) engaging in continuing education, late-stage trainees and postgraduates (e.g. graduate medical students, medical residents, fellows, and nursing students), allied health professionals, health informatics professionals, and healthcare administrators.
Between heavy documentation, coordinating schedules, and keeping up with new medical literature, the administrative demands of healthcare can pull professionals away from their patients. Many believe AI can help, but want to ensure they are using it safely and responsibly. Built and taught by clinicians at Google, this healthcare AI certificate teaches safe, practical ways to use AI. In under 5 hours, you’ll learn to tailor patient communications, tackle administrative tasks, and support your professional learning, all while keeping patient safety and privacy front and center.
The certificate is comprised of four courses (approximately one hour each) that build foundational AI skills applicable to any tool your institution adopts:
No. The certificate is strictly designed for non-clinical administrative tasks, patient communication, and professional development. It does not cover clinical diagnosis, medical decision-making, or treatment recommendations. In accordance with strict patient safety and privacy standards, the program teaches you how to identify safe, non-clinical AI use cases and apply your professional judgment to evaluate all AI outputs.
No prior technical or AI experience is required. This curriculum is designed to be accessible to any healthcare professional, regardless of their familiarity with AI. There are no prerequisite courses to complete.
To ensure the certificate content is relevant and practical, the syllabus and learning materials were developed by clinicians at Google with backgrounds spanning internal medicine, pediatrics, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, and public health and reviewed by leading healthcare organizations. Additionally, this program is informed by emerging AAMC AI competencies.
Healthcare professionals recognize that AI can streamline routine work, but valid concerns around data privacy often create hesitation. This certificate replaces uncertainty with confidence by teaching learners how to safely evaluate AI products, establish clear data boundaries, and apply their clinical judgment to supervise AI outputs responsibly. The curriculum emphasizes that an institution’s internal policy is always the ultimate source of truth, training healthcare professionals to recognize approved enterprise environments, prevent the input of Protected Health Information (PHI) and verify HIPAA compliant AI standards, and ensure human clinical oversight remains firmly at the center of care.
Lessons are taught by Google healthcare experts and practicing clinical leaders, with specialties in internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and intensive care. These instructors combine clinical expertise with deep knowledge of technology to teach practical, safe, and highly relevant AI workflows for healthcare teams.
In Singapore, the program is available on Coursera through a monthly subscription of $49 USD per month, allowing you to finish at your own pace. Prices may vary by country. When you enroll, you gain full access to all course materials, videos, activities, and assessments.
The certificate is self-paced, and it takes under 5 hours total to complete. Lessons are designed to fit flexibly between shifts, rounds, or on your commute.
