Empowering Singaporeans today, for tomorrow. From Singapore to the World.
Impact stories
My transition from the cockpit to the cloud
Royce Lua, Generative AI Engineer at SAP
For years, I felt like I was running down the wrong runway. After attaining my diploma in aviation and a brief stint in the sports and wellness industry, I realised neither path was the right fit. I was determined to find specialised and practical training to make the jump to tech.
I started taking programming courses which eventually led me to learn about the Skills Ignition SG programme. It was total immersion where Google trained us to think and solve problems using cutting-edge AI concepts and gave me the confidence and experience to apply for my current role as a Generative AI Engineer at SAP.
My non-traditional background didn't matter because the skills I gained were real and highly sought after. The traineeship didn't just give me a new job; it gave me a future I can finally believe in, in Singapore's digital economy.
My Google certificate made it possible to pivot
Aruun Thavabalan, Product Manager at AMILI
I was studying Bioengineering at NTU, and doing an undergraduate placement in the IT department, when I realised my true passion was to work in tech. I was determined to pivot, but without a Computer Science degree I knew I’d have to boost my qualifications through certificate programmes.
I heard about the Google Data Analytics Certificate through my university’s career office and applied for NTU’s GCC scholarship. The certificate programme was the real breakthrough: its curriculum offered practical, real-world data and problem-solving scenarios. This immediately boosted my confidence and allowed me to visualise how my knowledge could translate into an actual tech role.
My proficiency in SQL, which I picked up during the course, helped me to secure my first role as a software engineer. With my expanded skill set, I decided to return to the healthcare industry where I am able to combine all my learnings as a product manager for probiotics at the Asian Microbiome Library (AMILI), a gut microbiome company in Singapore. I am currently pursuing my Masters Degree in sustainable foods at the Singapore Institute of Technology.
Putting my new skills to use for the nation
Pooja Rana, Trainee at Skills Ignition SG
Leaving my career as an air stewardess to pursue digital marketing was a huge leap, especially without a background in tech or AI. But the prospect of joining Singapore's exciting, growing digital economy made me determined to pivot.
I joined the Skills Ignition SG traineeship where we had the chance to apply what we learnt in real-world projects. After just eight weeks in the programme, my fellow trainees, Yi Sin Tan, Grace Lam, Benjamin Hoon, and I had the chance to create an SG60 video for the Housing Development Board (HDB) to demonstrate how AI could support communication and creativity within their workplace. Within two days, we delivered a video which followed the journey of a couple buying their first apartment where they built a lifetime of memories. This was an impactful and visual example that resonated with HDB’s senior leadership, who could see the potential for storytelling through AI-tools.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback has reaffirmed my decision to change industries, and shows that anyone can successfully pivot and turn new skills into a meaningful career.
More time for people thanks to AI
Roseleigh Pua, Digital Marketing Trainee at Skills Ignition SG
After completing my Psychology degree and teaching in Spain, I was curious about digital marketing and AI, but a career pivot to tech felt daunting. I took the leap with the Skills Ignition SG programme and, as a trainee, immediately got to help organise an intergenerational community event for seniors.
It was incredible. As a team, we utilised Gemini for project management and planning, along with ImageFX and Whisk to design fun visuals - from photo booth props to custom bingo cards. Seeing it all create such a memorable experience for the seniors was so rewarding!
By letting AI automate the time-consuming tasks, we could prioritise on what truly mattered: making heartfelt connections. These tools enable us to focus on the human touch, and ultimately, forge even stronger community bonds.
The reward of taking a non-traditional path to tech
Jeremy Choo, Professional Cloud Architect Trainee at Skills Ignition SG
After six months, I left a traditional computer-science degree programme to enroll in a coding school. I felt that I needed a more practical, project-based approach to gain experience and unlock an advanced career in tech.
My breakthrough came when I later learned about and applied for the Professional Cloud Architect traineeship under Google’s Skills Ignition SG programme. Just one month into my traineeship, I put my newly acquired AI skills to the test: I developed an AI agent for the Land Transport Authority (LTA) which shortened the turnaround time to draft project funding papers and could analyse data to create proposals with a higher likelihood of approval.
I’m proud that my solution is responsible for accelerating the approval of transport projects that improve public well-being in Singapore. Taking a non-traditional path to tech has helped me make an impact both for my career and to my country.
My new career in tech helps me pay it forward
Indra Jalal, Engagement Manager at Reversec
When COVID struck, I lost my job in sales, and finding a new role felt impossible. The uncertainty was overwhelming, but I knew I had to pivot. I set my sights on moving into tech, but the thought of retraining without a technical background was very intimidating.
Joining the Skills Ignition SG programme changed everything. It didn’t just teach me Cloud architecture; it gave me an entirely new skillset and opened up ample opportunities in the tech industry, even during the pandemic. I was also inspired to co-found Tech Do Good, an organisation that makes technology more accessible for families through initiatives like providing laptops to underprivileged families.
My traineeship did more than just restart my career; it empowered me to find success and create a mission to help others follow their own path.
Advancing my credibility in the AI job market
Hazirah Ismail, Trainee at Skills Ignition SG
I was already working in a regional marketing role at a major e-commerce platform, but I knew that I still needed to keep pace with how quickly technologies were changing in order to future-proof my career.
It was my mum who encouraged me to apply for the Skills Ignition SG traineeship through Google. Through the programme, I joined the YouTube growth marketing team, which gave me hands-on, high-level experience that immediately opened other doors. After graduating, I quickly found my new full-time role, where I use internal AI tools to generate data reports and help clients apply generative AI in their campaigns.
The Skills Ignition SG programme didn't just lead the way to this job. It provided the deep credibility and practical skills I needed to become a specialist, who now advises major brands on AI strategy.
The journey from food rider to IT executive
Nurul Astika, Partner Services Executive with Skyscanner
I always wanted to work in the technology field and graduated with a diploma in IT. But when it came to applying for jobs, my qualifications weren’t enough to land interviews for the technical roles I was interested in. I realised I needed a better way to gain experience and boost my credentials.
I applied for the Skills Ignition SG programme to upskill in Cloud Technology. The programme was a practical blend of intensive learning followed by hands-on training which helped me to gain exposure and build my confidence working on Google Cloud projects.
I’m so relieved knowing that I’m learning the latest in-demand skills to grow a steady career in the IT industry. I’ve proved to myself and hopefully others that it’s never too late to change your direction and secure a technical position in Singapore's growing digital economy.
The confidence boost I needed to return to work
Ramona Koh, Programme Manager, Google Data Center Business Operations
I was feeling a bit anxious about returning to the workforce after years as a stay-at-home mother. I wasn’t confident of having a professional career, and knew I would need to update my skills and prove my capabilities. But I was determined to become financially stable and a good role model for my children.
I joined the Skills Ignition SG traineeship programme, where I was able to learn the latest in-demand digital skills I needed to unlock new professional opportunities. During the traineeship, I was attached to the Google Pay team, which was a major milestone that helped me build the skills needed to switch from my former career in the oil and gas industry, and into tech.
That experience gave me the personal and professional validation I needed. Today, I am grateful for the opportunity to be working as the Programme Manager at the Google Data Centre. The programme didn't just teach me new skills, it re-established my confidence so that I can show my children that with perseverance and the right support, anything is possible.
Learning new skills to strengthen my creative team
Ng Yi Yang, Managing Director at ZYRUP Media
As the Managing Director of ZYRUP Media, I run a video production agency serving clients’ media and creative needs. We were excited to explore generative AI but we wanted to build a framework that allowed us to produce reliable outputs to guarantee a consistent standard of quality.
Through the Google AI Essentials Course, I gained the formal framework I could use and adapt for my needs. My motivation was to strategically assess how AI could reshape our creative industry, and I managed to access the course at no charge through Google's collaboration with Enterprise Singapore and SGTech. The course's focus on structured prompting frameworks was the most significant and transformative takeaway.
I’ve since then applied the course's principles to refine prompts and streamline how our team works with AI. This allowed us to shift using AI from a novelty to a reliable tool that accelerates brainstorming, drafts scripts more efficiently, and even helps us visualise storyboards faster. By treating AI as a "collaborative partner," our video team is able to develop and strategise ideas faster and more efficiently.
Breaking down language barriers with AI
Saravannan Rajandran, Community Team Lead at Tictag
At Tictag, we specialise in data collection to improve Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models. Our mission is deeply rooted in inclusivity, which is why we regularly collaborate with community partners, but language barriers are a persistent challenge. Translating vital materials—such as safety guides, legal rights, or training information—from English into a diverse range of native languages can be a very long administrative task.
Through Google Translate, we can instantly prepare information for multiple languages and use the live translation feature to encourage real-time interaction during workshops. This also makes our sessions far more engaging for participants and ensures they have access to all the information they need.
Today, we also teach low-income families and Migrant workers/Migrant Domestic Workers how to use Gemini for practical tasks, from drafting simple emails and cooking recipes to creating their own CVs. These technologies are crucial for breaking down barriers and making sure everyone in Singapore can access opportunities and resources.
Making classroom learning more inclusive
Norashid Bin Darni, Senior Lecturer at ITE College West
At ITE College West, we saw an opportunity to better serve our students with special educational needs after noticing the differences in their exam performances. We set out to develop a multi-faceted approach to provide structured support for the students before, during, and after classes.
Before class, instructors use Google's AI to generate podcasts from slides, helping students familiarise themselves with the material. Students then complete multiple-choice quizzes generated by Gemini to assess their initial understanding. During class, Google Classroom serves as the central hub for all in-class activities and assessments. After class, students use Google AI Studio for self-paced, personalised revision by uploading lesson materials and asking the AI to explain concepts they didn't understand, summarise key points, or generate Mind Maps.
The results highlighted the program's success: our students with special needs showed significant improvement with quiz scores that consistently surpassed the classroom average. By successfully narrowing the exam performance gap from over 10% to just 4%, we’ve decided to expand the programme to a larger cohort in an effort to adopt inclusive AI tools for more students.
Scaling specialised knowledge for every neurodiverse learner
Soofrina Mubarak, Assistant Director (Educational Technologies) and Lead Educational Therapist at Dyslexia Association of Singapore
At the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), we support around 3,000 students through over 100 educational therapists specialising in different areas of learning support. Creating resources, managing assessments, and handling data used to be time-consuming, diverting valuable time away from our learners.
Our digital strategy changed that. Using Google Apps Script, we built in-house automations that connect Sheets, Docs, and Forms to streamline key processes, such as report generation. We also developed custom AI assistants using Gemini Gems, such as our “Text Differentiator.” These are trained not only on our evidence-based curriculum, but also on the shared expectations of our Curriculum, Educational Advisors, Educational Therapists, and EduTech teams. By embedding our collective specialist knowledge into Gemini, we scale consistent, high-quality content execution across departments, achieving a level of speed, alignment, and collaboration we never thought possible.
The seamless integration of Gems and Google Workspace has made it an essential tool in empowering every neurodiverse learner. As Singapore celebrates SG60, DAS continues to champion inclusive innovation, using technology to ensure no learner is left behind.
Protecting vulnerable seniors from scams
Mae Tan, Founder at KampungKakis
Working at Google offers a unique vantage point into the intricate workings of our digital worlds. When I set out to support isolated seniors in Singapore by starting the charity, KampungKakis, I learned one of their greatest anxieties was falling victim to increasingly sophisticated scams.
The skills I use to build Google’s strategic partnerships, like forming new relationships and breaking down complex digital products into simple concepts, can also apply to our community work. Through KampungKakis, we launched digital clinics on online safety for seniors and implemented a ‘kaki’ buddy system where younger, tech-savvy volunteers guide them on how to better and safely navigate the digital world.
I'm proud to drive meaningful, scalable impact right here in Singapore. KampungKakis shows how we can create simple but meaningful solutions to protect and uplift our most vulnerable communities.
Prioritising the human touch through tech
Andy Lee, Divisional Leader at Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities
My biggest worry in senior care is the manpower crunch. As more Singaporeans age, we need staff to focus on engaging more deeply with seniors, but we’re too often tied down by routine admin and simple checks. The maths simply don’t add up.
At Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities, we chose to bring Google Home to our senior centres. We used the Google Home app's built-in 'Routines' feature to give the seniors the independence to set medication reminders and turn on and off the lights, all hands-free. This empowered the seniors and allowed our team to focus on things only a human can do.
We are now optimising our resources and gaining precious time back. We're not replacing people; we’re empowering them to deliver the highest quality, most human care possible.
Building digital peace of mind
Gabriel Tan, Founder of Bamboo Builders
I started Bamboo Builders to equip individuals with real-world skills and entrepreneurial mindsets to be confident about their future. Through my work, I noticed scams becoming increasingly sophisticated. With scammers using increasingly advanced tools, we saw the opportunity to leverage our educational expertise to gamify and make scams awareness education fun and interactive.
At Bamboo Builders, our mission is to empower communities to become confident about their future. With the support of Google.org, we launched SG ScamWISE, Singapore’s first public scams awareness certification programme.
Through interactive workshops, real-world simulations, and AI-driven learning tools, we aim to equip 100,000 Singaporeans by 2026 with the skills, confidence, and empathy to stay safe online. This initiative empowers not just individuals, but entire communities to recognise, respond to, and rise above scams together.
Project Relate gives me my voice back
Allan Cai, Advocate at MINDS and Project Relate
I would say I’m the happiest man on earth. But even with all my optimism, daily communication has always been a struggle because I live with non-standard speech. Simple things like ordering food or calling a friend can be exhausting because other people can’t always understand what I’m trying to say. Learning to overcome this and speak up for myself is something I’ve focused on, especially through organisations like MINDS where we’re encouraged to nurture our confidence and independence.
That’s why the app - Project Relate, has been a total game-changer. I can train it to understand my unique speech patterns, which makes transcribing my words much more accurate.
Now, with this speech-to-text app on my phone, I can communicate my ideas instantly and confidently. People can finally focus on what I’m saying, not how I’m saying it. It’s a tool that lets me share my happiness and thoughts more fully with the world.
Developing a solution for seniors with dementia
Dao Zheng Chang, Co-Creator of HeadHome
When my university mates, Marc, Hui Xiang, Jing Xuan, and I entered the Google Solution Challenge, we felt strongly about tackling an issue that we found both heartbreaking and critical: people with dementia often experience confusion and disorientation, which can cause them to wander away from their homes or care facilities without realising where they are going.
By working together, we developed the HeadHome application, which leverages hardware, software, and the power of community volunteers. When a person with dementia begins to wander from their home while wearing one of our tracking devices, their designated caregiver receives a notification to send an SOS message to registered volunteers. Through the app, nearby volunteers can locate the wanderer through our Google Maps integration, which also provides street view directions to guide them home.
Being chosen as one of the Global Top 3 Teams of the Google Solution Challenge was a powerful affirmation that we can use technology to address the issues closest to our hearts and drive real social impact.
Redefining the future of hospital care at home
Dr. Shravan Verma, Founder of Speedoc
In Singapore, most healthcare is still delivered within hospitals and clinics, creating persistent challenges around bed capacity and workforce constraints. Our vision for Speedoc was to build the hospital of the future that could extend seamlessly into every patient’s home.
To make this vision a reality, we partnered with Searce and Google Cloud in the AI Cloud Takeoff programme to develop an agentic AI platform that could automate our virtual clinic workflow. From scheduling and triaging, to responding to patient queries in real time to reduce operational bottlenecks, we scaled our Hospital@Home services more efficiently than traditional brick-and-mortar facilities. This enabled our human clinicians to dedicate their expertise to complex cases that require more nuanced clinical judgment.
This collaboration represents more than just operational efficiency - it reflects a paradigm shift in how care is delivered. By combining medical expertise with intelligent technology, we’re proving that high-quality hospital care can be delivered safely, comfortably, and sustainably at home, marking a decisive step toward the future of healthcare.
Simplifying selling to drive the circular economy
Kelvin Vuong, Chief Technical Officer at Carousell Group’s Cho Tot and Mudah.my
Carousell's mission is to make secondhand the first choice for everyone. The gateway to achieving this goal is to help our users start selling, by conveniently uploading information about the product they wish to list, making it easier for buyers to find their items. But with a growing list of product attributes to fill in, our sell form, the first step to selling, became increasingly complex and negatively impacted the user experience.
We were already using Google Cloud Vertex AI for our machine learning when we discovered Gemini's unique strengths in processing video, images and voice inputs. Combined with our own data, we were able to simplify the selling experience through "List with AI”. Now users simply upload a photo or capture a video of their item, and Gemini instantly generates the title, category, description, price and other product attributes.
To date, we’ve achieved a 20% increase in listed items by reducing the average listing time to under two minutes. Google Cloud ensures that our platform is resilient and scalable, proving that AI is the key to a frictionless future for global recommerce.
From One Journal Entry to a Million Stories of Growth
Jeromy Yap and Kenny Yap, Co-Founders of Two App Studio
Building the Journey app began with a simple belief in creating a private, safe space for self-reflection and emotional wellness. My twin brother and I never set out to build a global app, but winning a tablet in a university programming competition sparked something bigger. A dream to create a journaling space that encourages mindfulness, gratitude, and emotional wellness.
Journey is more than a digital diary, it’s a safe place where anyone can write freely, reflect deeply, and grow intentionally. Over time, it evolved into a wellness companion, helping people set goals, track their emotions, and rediscover self-love through reflection.
Thanks to Google Play, Journey reached people far beyond Singapore, connecting us with a global community who share one simple goal: to live more consciously. Recognised as Google Play’s Best App in 2017 and again in 2023, Journey continues to inspire millions to make journaling part of their daily lives.
Combining craftsmanship and collaboration with AI
Hazieq Nizam, Owner of Wax Guitar Services
As a small business owner who specialises in intricate guitar repairs, my biggest challenge is handling custom requests for high-value instruments that are all built uniquely. Working on a guitar that is both high in monetary and sentimental value—like one signed by Brian May of Queen—can be incredibly stressful. I needed a reliable way to instantly verify complex design details before proceeding with any time-intensive and delicate work.
When the Brian May guitar arrived, I immediately thought to use Gemini to validate my approach and get a thorough run-through of the guitar's specific build and model. The help from Gemini was invaluable. Without that detailed information and the confidence boost it gave me, that repair job could have taken far longer.
I spent a total of 36 hours working on the instrument, and I know Gemini saved me significant time. Google’s tools ensure I can combine my traditional craftsmanship with instant, accurate information, allowing my small business to deliver world-class service.
Accelerating customer growth across Southeast Asia
Asha Gourinath, Regional Head of Growth Capabilities (Performance Marketing & Media) at Grab
As the leading super-app across Southeast Asia, we need to constantly acquire and retain users who frequently transact, but the dynamic nature of consumer behaviour makes it difficult to effectively market to this audience.
We tapped Google Analytics 4 Audience Triggers to turn the complex ways people use their phones into simple, measurable events to give us AI-powered insights for our marketing campaigns. For example, the system can spot a user who orders food on weekdays, only books taxis on weekends, and also spends less after purchasing a flight ticket. For a fuller picture, we also use Ads Data Hub, a privacy-centric analytics hub, that lets us integrate Google’s data with our own internal figures to generate a complete analysis.
The results contributed to a significant 19% increase in high-value daily transacting users while cutting our costs by 9% per acquisition. This strategy proves that leveraging Google's best AI tools is essential to accelerating customer journeys and ensuring profitable growth across Southeast Asia.
Gemini improves our creative output and employee satisfaction
Joel Lim, Managing Director at ZYRUP Media
As a digital media company with a podcast network with a focus on thoughtful conversations, our goal is to launch compelling podcast content that covers a range of topics in depth. But researching, producing, and editing each potential story naturally took up a lot of time due to the processes being inherently laborious.
We significantly shortened the process by integrating Gemini as an AI-powered production tool. In pre-production, the Deep Research feature allows us to quickly build a reference list around any topic, essentially reverse-engineering the research process. Instead of manually scouring the web for credible sources, Gemini surfaces relevant articles, papers, and reports in minutes, which we then review for depth and accuracy. In post-production, Gemini assists by instantly generating editing decision lists which help us identify our strongest clips.
These tools have given us significant time savings, which translates into crucial cost efficiency for our lean but efficient team. More impressively, it’s helped with positively impacting employee experience by streamlining workflows and reducing repetitive, labour-intensive tasks.
Creating keyless homes of the future
Anthony Chow, Founder of igloo
Our vision at igloo is a world without physical keys, but scaling smart access control technology requires rigorous support services to ensure our customers feel confident using new tools. But we could foresee that relying entirely on human agents to handle product troubleshooting would reduce our ability to scale quickly.
Through the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First, we built an intelligent app that gave customers total control of their devices and provided answers whenever they experienced any issues. We also launched iglooBot, a smart assistant that handles the wide range of product inquiries we regularly receive online. It efficiently recommends the best product fit to prospective customers, which saves time for both our customers and our team, while helping to drive sales.
We are already looking to develop customised versions of the app for our distributors and partners around the world to continue with our innovative approach to customer service. By setting out to blend our software and hardware solution, we are excited to explore new avenues for innovation.
Making financial literacy more accessible
Junxian Lee, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at GoodWhale
Many people avoid investing because financial jargon and company reports feel distant and intimidating. At GoodWhale, we believe financial literacy is a basic human right so we set out to create a tool that made managing money as natural as having a conversation with a friend.
We launched GoodWhale Buddy, a conversational AI coach built on Google Cloud and Gemini Pro, which allows users to talk about their expenses, goals, and investments in plain language. By turning complex financial data into simple insights they can act on, we make the world of finance more inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Our platform now empowers hundreds of thousands across the region. It has allowed us to engage users in their own natural language, and power our goal of helping every Singaporean take control of their financial journey, one meaningful conversation at a time.
Eliminating compliance risks in regulated industries
Calvin Tan, Co-founding CTO & AI & Software Engineer at Pints.AI
For financial institutions operating in regulated industries, the potential of generative AI is huge, but adoption is blocked by one major issue: trust. When AI systems produce text, it’s often impossible to verify where specific statements originated, creating massive compliance and auditability challenges. We needed to build AI that was trustworthy by design.
To solve this, we developed a system that can trace and attribute AI-generated responses back to their specific source documents and sections through the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First programme. Using Google Cloud infrastructure, this network allows users to instantly trace any part of an AI output to its exact origin in the data or document set.
The impact has been profound, dramatically improving both efficiency and audit confidence. We found that the tracing network has reduced the time spent on document verification by 5 to 20 times, depending on the complexity of the output. What previously required extensive manual review can now be confirmed almost instantly, allowing regulated businesses to adopt AI securely and without compromise.
Giving global logistics an AI upgrade
Damian Leach, CIO at Seaco
One of the major challenges in global container leasing and logistics is the sheer scale and manual effort of maintaining and inspecting containers so that they can be re-deployed or sold. With a fleet of 2.4 million twenty-foot equivalent container units, this process can create a bottleneck in our operations and for the 350 partner depots in 51 different countries.
Through the Google AI Cloud Takeoff programme, my team developed the first iteration of our multilingual AI agent using Google Translate where depot staff can snap photos and add voice notes on their mobile devices to create damage notification reports. The solution is able to detect and categorise the top 20 damage types, extracting the detail from the photos uploaded.
This automation has not only boosted our productivity but also increased the speed at which we inspect and make decisions so our depots get faster answers and strengthen our supply chain partnerships. By integrating AI and cloud automation, we can unlock insights from vast amounts of data in seconds, which simply wasn’t possible before.
AI helps us deliver relevant news to every reader
Edmund Chua, Head of Consumer Insights & Analytics at AsiaOne
As a digital news company, our mission is to make every reader’s experience feel effortless and personal. We want our audiences to find stories that truly speak to them. But that requires analysing and tagging thousands of articles and social media content to understand what our users are reading and saying.
We partnered with Google to build a system powered by Gemini to take on the monumental task of automatically classifying content and comments with precision and speed. The platform instantly identifies key topics and publishes stories that align to each readers' interests, which frees our editorial teams to focus on creative, high-value storytelling that defines our brand.
The impact has been immediate and measurable: our reader engagement has surged now that our tagging and analytic capabilities are much more accurate. Now we can regularly deliver campaign videos averaging 750k+ views and 2:46 minutes of watch time. By putting cutting-edge AI to work behind the scenes, we can ensure every reader has a tailored content experience.
Disrupting a global category from Singapore
Eugene Chua, Executive Head, Global E-Commerce and Sales at Secretlab
As a homegrown new-gen ecommerce, direct-to-consumer brand, we knew a strong digital marketing strategy would be key to reaching a much bigger global market and finding new customers around the world
Google Ads and YouTube Ads played a significant role in helping us connect with prospective customers through effective audience segmentation and targeting. These same tools allow us to craft messaging that appeals to each potential buyer. With the added intelligence and power of machine learning to scour the internet, it’s a supercharged combination that ensures we reach prospective customers at the exact moment they start searching for an ergonomic chair.
To date, our performance campaigns consistently deliver great customer acquisition and conversion value. Google’s suite of AI-powered solutions have played an important role for Secretlab to bypass traditional barriers, scale effectively, and dominate the global market from our homebase in the Little Red Dot.
Taking the pain out of payroll and tax calculations
Gordon Ng, CEO & Co-Founder at Talenox
One of the biggest causes for headaches in growing small and medium-sized businesses across Asia is dealing with the complexity of local payroll and employment regulations. We built Talenox with the aim of making a world-class HR software that could simplify how employers remain compliant with each country’s unique employment rules and tax calculations, and we knew AI could make the user experience even more intuitive.
We tapped on Gemini to create a ‘smart upload’ system that makes it even simpler for users to migrate employee data into the Talenox system. The software can then automate HR tasks such as employee payroll, processing leave applications, and calculating the correct tax deductions. By reducing the time for onboarding and minimising the need for manual inputs, we can empower small businesses with the capabilities of an HR department in one platform.
Backed by Google Cloud, we look forward to strengthening Talenox’s role as an essential player in the global HR tech industry.
Bringing tech solutions to the F&B industries
Shawn Liam, Co-Founder of Atlas
Atlas was born from our own experience as F&B operators, shaped by the daily inefficiencies, growing pains, and fragmented IT systems we faced running restaurants ourselves.
We joined the Google for Startups Accelerator to figure out how AI could bring us closer to our mission of helping restaurants streamline their operations, automate complex workflows, and make smarter decisions. Through the programme, we used Google’s AI stack to develop new features that help our users manage every part of their business, whether it’s online sales, dine-in ordering, analytics, or third-party integrations. Now, all of their restaurant data and insights are connected in a single system.
As we grow across the region, we’re focused on reshaping how restaurants operate — blending AI, data, and design to power the next generation of F&B experiences.
Showcasing our app to a global audience
Weiguang Fan, Founder of Notewise
When the pandemic hit, the shift to remote work really impacted me and my colleagues. We all missed the simple act of sketching and brainstorming together around a physical whiteboard, which inspired me to come up with my own solution.
I founded Notewise to build an intuitive, digital canvas for remote teams to collaborate. As with any new app, the biggest challenge is letting potential users know where to find you. By partnering with Google Play, their AI-based discovery promotes Notewise to an international user base, which has helped us reach nearly 5 million downloads to date. We also use their technical tools, like Android Vitals and the Play Integrity API, to make sure our app is working as expected across all Android devices.
As long as we focus on building a high-quality app, we know that there are a number of Google tools and resources available for us to tap into. This gives us confidence that startups from Singapore can reach a global audience.
Reducing the delays and manual work in interior inspections
Shaun Koo, CEO of H3 Zoom.AI
Inspecting large, occupied buildings has long been slow and paperwork-heavy. Traditional methods rely on clipboards, scattered photos, and ad-hoc notes across hundreds of rooms and corridors—creating data gaps, rework, and reporting delays. We saw an opportunity to modernise interior asset management with technology that raises the bar for speed, consistency, and traceability.
We designed Interior Inspector, our 360-camera and AI-powered solution, to deliver precise interior inspections across units, corridors, plant rooms, and common areas. Through the Google for Startups Accelerator, we made it even more intuitive. By integrating Google Cloud Vision AI and Gemini Speech-to-Text, inspectors can simply walk, capture, and speak their notes in-app and eliminate pen-and-paper workflows.
The time to complete an interior inspection and final report can now be reduced by over 80%. Most importantly, teams get a single source of truth—digitised findings, automated summaries, and work orders that sync across devices—proving that technology is the key to running smarter buildings at scale.
Powering our platform through the 'One Google' approach
Nitin Dolli, Chief Technology Officer at Ryde
As a growing ride-hailing company, we needed a truly unified technology ecosystem to scale features like live tracking, intelligent matching and a data-driven rewards program, which require handling real-time location data and communication instantly.
We solved this by adopting the 'One Google' approach, where every critical layer of our platform now runs cohesively within the Google ecosystem. This end-to-end integration streamlines all our departments, eliminating silos and achieving real-time visibility across business units. For example, we leverage Vertex AI to analyse complex operational data, helping us automate internal tasks and make smarter decisions about everything from driver routes to customer service. We also use BigQuery ML and LookML to power day-to-day decision-making and generate insights that lead to strategic decisions that fuel business growth.
The result is a better experience for everyone. For our customers, this means benefits like faster pickups, transparent fares, and smoother journeys, and even improved route efficiency for our drivers. The One Google ecosystem empowers Ryde to innovate confidently, operate efficiently, and continue shaping smarter urban mobility for Singapore and beyond.
Making private market investments secure and efficient
Olivier Too, Co-founder and CEO, Auptimate
Auptimate helps angel groups, fund managers and startup founders make private market investments across startups, private equity, real estate or private credit. When a group of investors pools capital to invest in a promising startup, Auptimate handles all the complicated paperwork, legal structures, and financial tracking. But coordination across teams and managing sensitive documents for over 2,000 investors can create inefficiencies and pose compliance risks.
Google Workspace’s invincible infrastructure keeps our globally distributed team coordinated for investor calls and secure file sharing. We also lean on NotebookLM to transcribe team meetings, which allows us to instantly query past discussions or action items. And keeping a customised Notebook for uploading all of our regulatory intelligence gives us instant research support while maintaining compliance.
This ecosystem has accelerated our growth and allows our lean team to operate like a much larger organisation. Google's tools haven't just supported Auptimate; they are instrumental in helping us administer over $105 million in assets and build trust with clients worldwide.

Designing tomorrow’s store, powered by Google AI
Dennis Seah, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Fairprice Group
FairPrice Group (FPG)’s purpose is to make every day a little better for those we serve. One of the biggest challenges with delivering on this purpose is remaining competitive and relevant in an era where customer expectations are constantly changing. We knew that AI had the potential to redefine how we keep essentials within reach for our customers, by making things even easier on the wallet, experience, and planet.
That is why we embarked on our partnership with Google Cloud to embed AI right into the customer experience, from the shop floor to the checkout counter, through our 'Store of Tomorrow' programme. Innovations such as our new cloud-connected Smart Carts and Digital ‘Endless’ Aisles are delivering even greater value to consumers, while redefining retail experiences for them. Building on this momentum, we will pilot over 20 new solutions every year for the next few years so that we can scale the technology needed to accelerate our growth across the region, and continue making every day a little better for those we serve.
An AI assistant to help SMEs grow effectively
Jatin Khosla, Co-Founder & CEO at Konigle
Many small and medium-sized businesses face massive gaps in execution when it comes to digital marketing. Between the high costs of hiring an agency, or managing a team of freelancers, it can be challenging to scale a business while still staying cost-effective.
We joined the Google for Startups Accelerator to build an AI-powered digital assistant that could help our clients grow their SMEs more efficiently. Through the programme, we improved and scaled Konigle's AI, 'Tim’, using Gemini as our default foundation model. Now our clients can simply email Tim: 'Build a new landing page and integrate a payment gateway,' and Tim would promptly understand and execute the tasks.
The impact has been immediate: our AI assistant is already working for 100+ SMEs. We have customers who have scaled from $30k to over $85k SGD in monthly sales by building customised customer journeys and performing regular email marketing. Google's accelerator and its tooling helped us build a reliable digital department at a fraction of the cost, eliminating the execution gap for small businesses.
Unlocking sensitive financial data without risking
Uzair Javaid, CEO and Co-Founder of Betterdata
Betterdata works with major enterprises globally who are restricted from using mainstream AI tools because they handle sensitive customer data, such as financial documents and user records. Our solution meets the requirements of the global privacy laws because we convert real customer data into artificial (synthetic) data that doesn’t contain any sensitive information about users or transactions. Synthetic data can then be used to generate insights and make the most of AI’s capabilities.
When we joined the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First, we were ready to take our platform to the next level by developing Invoice AI, a revolutionary document intelligence system. Through Google Gemini and our industry-leading enterprise synthetic data platform, Invoice AI can automatically extract, clean, and generate synthetic financial documents in any format, language, or currency. We can achieve over 95% data extraction accuracy and 90% faster document processing, which has led to an 80% reduction in manual work.
This Google-backed solution is now helping enterprises securely process sensitive data - from banking records to personal identification details - at scale.
A blueprint for a better student life
Afshal Gulam and Pranav Janakiraman, Founders of TaskGenie and Students at the National University of Singapore
Whenever a deadline or meeting timing shifts, students have to manually update their calendars, to-do lists, and reminders. While studying Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore, we saw the opportunity to develop a tool that could help other students manage their tasks without eating into their study time.
Together we built TaskGenie, an AI-powered task manager app that uses Gemini to break down complex goals into smaller actionable steps. Since developing the app and winning the Judges’ Choice Award through the NUS School of Computing's Orbital programme, TaskGenie has now been adopted by more than 100 students using the app to make their workflows more efficient.
We're excited to graduate in 2028 and be part of the next generation of developers creating smarter task management tools for everyone. We’re proof that powerful AI like Gemini can be accessible to anyone, including student founders.
Closing the skills gap across Asia
Assel Mussagaliyeva-Tang, Founder of EDUTech Future
As an educator, I could see a growing gap between what universities and adult learning programmes were teaching, and what skills were actually needed in the workplace. I was inspired to launch EDUTech Future, a startup upskilling students and professionals in digital and AI skills, but knew that building the business would require immense resources.
My solution was to make Google AI my co-founder. By integrating Gemini, Google AI Studio, and NotebookLM into my workflow, I could brainstorm and create dynamic, multimodal lessons and programmes. We quickly launched workshops on GenAI Fundamentals to help learners of all ages think like tech professionals, solve problems using the latest AI tools, and apply their skills in real-world projects.
To date, we’ve empowered over 2,000+ people through our programmes, with 70% of our ‘Break into Tech’ participants landing new jobs or pivoting their careers. Google's AI doesn't just speed up my tasks as a founder, it scales my programmes to make sure everyone can thrive in a tech-driven future.
Scaling quality product photography
Darren Lim, GenAI Coach & Creative Director at The Gradient Agency
As a Creative Director, one of the challenges of scaling high-quality product photography is creating a diverse set of images for clients to post on social media. Physically shooting and styling every variation in a traditional photo shoot can be incredibly time-intensive and expensive.
We integrated Nano Banana into our creative workflow for its capabilities in processing images and retaining precise details. From one single photo, we can generate multiple product photography shots in different styles, giving us the scalable engine we need to cover a variety of photo styles.
We’ve eliminated bottlenecks in traditional creative production by offering high-quality, on-brand visuals, while saving time and money on typical production costs, such as scene styling, specialised lighting, and props, without needing a 5-person crew for every job. This allows our small team to provide a fast and efficient service that accelerates our clients' marketing goals while ensuring we maintain our high creative standards.
Building an inclusive AI for Southeast Asia
William Tjhi, Head of Applied Research for Foundation Models at AI Singapore
I once tested different AI tools by asking how to handle noise from a nearby mosque. The culturally insensitive responses they generated suggested that the underlying data powering the world's large language models (LLMs) was missing Southeast Asia’s linguistic nuances and unique contexts. This meant these LLMs would be less effective in addressing deep challenges faced by local people.
To solve this, we embarked on developing SEA-LION, a family of open LLMs for better understanding of the region’s languages and cultures. Our collaboration with the Google DeepMind & Research teams was crucial, as they generously shared their experiences and expertise in building high-quality regional data sets, and our partnership grew steadily from the co-development of data to co-development of models. Both SEA-LION v3 and v4 were built by continued pre-training and fine-tuning on top of Google’s Gemma 2 and Gemma 3.
SEA-LION is all about democratising powerful technology. Today, SEA-LION is open-source so it can empower organisations, developers and researchers across the region to build their own locally-relevant AI tools.
Accelerating breakthrough medical research
Dr Jackwee Lim, Researcher at A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network (A*STAR SIgN)
Working with the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) on Singapore’s flagship Parkinson’s disease programme, we faced a colossal puzzle: figuring out the full structure of a neuroprotective protein, STIP1, and how it interacts with specific autoantibodies.
Using AI-based tools such as Google DeepMind's AlphaFold, we accelerated our research by predicting STIP1’s 3D structure. The models generated by Google’s AI sped up what have been time-consuming on the bench. By helping us to visualise distinct binding sites on STIP1, we could assess how these in 3D arrangement might alter the protein’s normal function.
These insights now guide our laboratory studies and contribute to Singapore’s broader efforts to understand Parkinson’s disease – laying the groundwork for future therapeutic discoveries.
Building an AI community with other developers
Weiyuan Liu, Google Developer Expert
As an engineering lead at Ascenda, it’s my responsibility to drive innovation and actively explore and prototype the next generation of B2B solutions for our customers. But in my experience, I’ve observed the difficulties that some organisations and engineering leads face in fostering a culture of technical excellence.
I became a Google Developer Expert (GDE) in cloud technologies so that I could share my knowledge and create more awareness around advanced tools, such as AI, through talks, mentoring, and even podcasting. This GDE role is a critical platform for me to actively guide developers and companies, helping them move beyond conceptual understanding to real-world implementations of complex technologies.
At heart, I’m a ‘problem solver’ who wants to help other developers explore and build applications using tools at our disposal, such as with the ecosystem that Google Cloud provides, along with the new Gemini AI tools and assistant capabilities. By sharing my practical expertise with the tech community in Singapore, I hope we will build a stronger tech community together.
Sharing my knowledge of AI with the next generation
Sam Witteveen, Google Developer Expert for Machine Learning
In 2017, my friend Martin Andrews and I started the Machine Learning SG Meetup—the first Deep Learning group in Singapore—to close the gap between fast-moving research and what developers could actually ship.
We partnered with Google to host and support our events, turning academic papers and tools into practical, hands-on sessions that local engineers could use.
Since then the MLSG group has grown into a thriving community of over 7,000 individuals and allowed us to share our knowledge, support other researchers and developers, and leverage our expertise to demystify cutting edge research and powerful tools like Google's TensorFlow and JAX for a broader audience both in Singapore and around the region.
Eight years later our goal remains the same: democratise AI by sharing clear, useful knowledge so every developer can build the future.
An essential partner for modern healthcare
Dr. Kyle Tan, Co-Founder of NOVI Health
As a preventative medicine consultant and business owner, it was a constant juggle: trying to stay organised and keep up with rapidly evolving medical research, all while managing the daily demands of product development and business operations.
Today, I rely on an integrated Google ecosystem, with Gemini as my productivity accelerator and workflow support. Gemini synthesises dense clinical trial data, saving me hours of reading. Its seamless integration with Pixel turns my phone into the central hub for my day, streamlining day-to-day tasks like turning email requests directly into calendar invites, or with 'Circle to Search,' I can instantly get more information on an unfamiliar drug name I see in an image, all without breaking my workflow.
The boost in efficiency ensures my focus remains sharp on our core mission: scaling personalised, technology-enhanced health solutions across the region. Google's AI is the crucial partner that frees me up to be a more effective entrepreneur and a more empathetic doctor.
Delivering faster, remote care for chronic diseases
Yin Hwee Lim, Co-Founder of Speedback
At Speedback, our mission is to empower clinicians to deliver preventive care at speed and scale by creating tools like AI agents embedded seamlessly into WhatsApp chats, working in tandem with human intelligence to ensure clinical safety and accountability.
As part of the Google for Startups Accelerator, we leveraged Vertex AI to develop an AI-enabled, multimodal, and multilingual vitals monitoring system that integrates with WhatsApp, allowing patients to conveniently share readings from home while automating feedback and alerts for care teams. Google’s AI tools and mentoring support helped us refine our backend architecture and workflow automation to scale safely and efficiently.
Since launch, Speedback has been serving health institutions across Singapore, New Zealand, and the United States to deliver proactive care with AI. Care teams have been able to scale their outreach 3x, while saving up to 20 hours per week per staff with Speedback. Leveraging AI as a learning partner
Liu Yijie, Mathematics Teacher at the School of Science and Technology
As a teacher, it’s important to cater to each student’s individual needs. How might we cater to accelerated learners ready to speed ahead, and also learners who may need a little extra support?
With NotebookLM, I’ve been able to create higher quality classroom materials that captivate and engage learners at every level. By using multimodal features such as Mind Map, an audio and video overview, students can see the big picture after every topic. We’ve also trialled Deep Research integrated with NotebookLM with Secondary 3 students, who were able to upload their original notes and discover thematic gaps in their materials to strengthen the quality of their final Math research projects.
By familiarising our students with these tools within the classroom, I am not just teaching mathematics - I’m making sure we are preparing them to be future-ready learners.
Staying ScamWISE in a Connected World
Kelly Kam, Entrepreneur & Participant of SG ScamWISE
I’ve always thought of myself as digitally savvy—until last year, when someone close to me fell for a romance scam. The financial fallout was devastating. That experience was a painful reminder that even the most cautious among us can be impacted. It made me determined to learn how to better protect myself and those I care about.
When I came across the SG ScamWISE programme, I immediately felt this was something more people needed to know about. It’s not just about spotting scams - it’s about understanding how they evolve, and how we can look out for one another. Tools like the ScamShield app and the community sharing during the sessions were truly eye-opening and empowering.
To me, staying ScamWISE isn’t just about being careful - it’s about staying connected. When we talk, share, and learn together as a community, we all become a little stronger and a lot safer.
Fighting online misinformation with AI
Dennis Yap, CEO & Founder at AI Seer
One of the biggest dangers in the digital age is the magnitude of data online and the potential for misinformation. People struggle to know whether the content they are seeing is real or fake, which leads to massive societal distrust. I started AI Seer with a mission to build an 'antivirus' for this problem, but tackling the scale and speed of misinformation needed powerful, cutting-edge AI.
By leveraging Gemini and Vertex AI, we built Facticity.AI, a multilingual social media AI fact-checker which can verify whether a piece of content is true. By cross-validating content through multiple credible sources, it empowers users to easily filter through online misinformation as they browse the internet.
Building the tool was the first step, but to reach our ideal audience is where Google's ecosystem truly accelerated our growth. By making Facticity.AI available as a Chrome extension and strategically using Google Ads, we've seen a major uptick in users who value credible information. Technology is crucial for building digital resilience in Singapore and worldwide.
An Essential Tool for Work and Home
Esther Foong-Tan, Parent & Family Life Education Specialist
As a full-time mom and entrepreneur, I need tools that help me keep things running at home and in my business. Gemini speeds up my ability to multi-task and get things done.
At home, we use my children's study notes to create customised and personalised worksheets using Gemini, which helps them to reinforce their classroom materials and absorb their learnings. For my consulting business, Gemini is my secret weapon when it comes to social media marketing. It speeds up all my daily content creation tasks and even remembers our unique tone and branding, which allows me to focus on strategy.
Gemini doesn't just manage my work and family life—it helps me to organise my thoughts and be more efficient with my tasks. It allows me to be a better entrepreneur and frees up time for me to be the parent I need to be.
From bottleneck to breakneck: Solving slow chatbots
Ng Kee Haur, Deputy Director at Nanyang Technological University
Early chatbot models require manual programming to make sure generated responses follow a set of predefined rules. Our team hit a wall with our old student housing chatbot, which was a constant struggle to update and took up a lot of staff time to maintain. This reduced their ability to help with more complex issues that needed a human touch, such as helping students adjust to living in shared housing.
We didn't just want an update; we went for a full rebuild with Google Cloud's Generative AI to create a smarter and reliable system that can automatically address some of our most commonly asked questions. Our current system now handles over 3,500 inquiries a month, can respond with 80% accuracy, and experiences zero hallucinations.
These results translate to a massive saving of up to 400 administrative hours a month, giving our teams 50 extra workdays to focus on what truly matters. What began as our solution to a frustrating problem has become a trusted blueprint for innovation across the university.
Fighting dehydration by mapping free water points
Tng Ming Kang, Student at the Singapore University of Social Sciences
As a student, I noticed a simple but constant need in Singapore: finding free, accessible water cooler points whenever I was out for a jog in my neighbourhood or around the city. It seemed like an unnecessary inefficiency that this information wasn’t easily available, which forced people like myself to buy bottled water and create more waste.
During my two-week school term break, I set out to tackle this challenge by building on Google Maps and using a Google Form to crowdsource data from online netizens to identify water cooler points in Singapore. Soon, I had contributors from across the country helping me to collect data on everything from GPS locations, to the availability of hot or cold water. It was a true collaboration between people and platform.
This project showed me that by using simple tools in a creative way, I was able to build a small but meaningful public resource - one that makes everyday life in Singapore a little more convenient and sustainable for everyone.
Workspace is the secret ingredient for our growth
Kristy Campbell, Co-Founder & Chief Operations Officer at Dearborn
As a small business, running a restaurant and bakery with multiple outlets requires precise coordination. Our menus typically need to be planned months in advance so we know what ingredients need to be ordered and how to anticipate any potential shipment delays. But planning ahead can be a challenge while staying on top of our daily operations.
We’ve mastered using Google Calendar to schedule our long-term and short-term baking schedule, including our weekly flavours so the team stays on top of our inventory needs for their next shifts. Meanwhile, as owner/operators, holding management meetings across all departments would not be possible due to the time needed to travel between locations. We depend on Google Workspace to keep our operations running, especially Google Meet to hold our weekly departmental syncs, which keeps everyone aligned on key decisions.
Google’s tools allow us to operate as a lean, coordinated business, ensuring every outlet and department remains perfectly synced without losing precious time.
Giving our social enterprise a much needed boost
Madeline Chan, Owner at Mad Roaster
Mad Roaster sells artisanal coffee and bakes, but we’re also a social enterprise that supports refugees by commissioning their art on our coffee cups, which means we are dedicated to growing our impact and not just our profits. As a small team, one of our constant challenges is making sure our team can work in alignment across our multiple outlets.
We solved this by making Google Workspace the backbone of our operation. Through consistent use of Drive, Sheets and Docs, staff at both outlets have visibility on all sales and inventory needs, which creates a more efficient workflow. We’re also using AI to summarise sales patterns from our POS reports, which allows us to better plan our bakery production and logistics.
Our standout tool has been Google Forms: an essential asset for recruiting volunteers, sourcing space for new outlets, and even finding mentors for our employees on the autism spectrum. This digital infrastructure allows us to focus our limited time and resources on our core social mission - creating livelihoods for our friends in the refugee community.
Scaling our mission to restore dignity to seniors
Nivedita Venkateish, Founder of Aire
When I saw my grandmother struggling with outdated and ill-fitting incontinence products, I knew the industry needed a change. My mission with Aire became clear: to restore comfort and confidence to active seniors experiencing incontinence, but building a brand with a social mission and a global supply chain requires impeccable operational efficiency.
Google Workspace has been an important tool for our small, agile team. Tools like Google Sheets and Google Docs allow us to make real-time changes and track our inventory data instantly. The segmentation of different document tabs also makes project tracking live and simple, ensuring we hit our deliverables and timelines without wasted effort.
This efficiency allows us to dedicate our time and resources to our core mission: listening to customer feedback and driving product innovation tailored for Asian sizes and needs. Working with Google’s tools proves that a purpose-driven Singaporean startup can achieve scale while always prioritising the dignity and well-being of the elderly.
Creatively empowering children to be digitally safe
Tham Jia Hui, Teacher
After teaching for 20 years, I’ve seen how quickly children have become reliant on devices. My students, often as young as 7 to 9 years, are naturally curious but they often lack the knowledge to safely navigate the internet’s murky waters.
That’s why I use the Be Internet Awesome programme. It’s brilliantly designed and delivers important lessons in a way children immediately connect with. The interactive games are a fantastic bonus — my students learn essential digital safety skills without even realising how much they’re taking in!
Having access to this programme has been such a breakthrough. It’s a powerful supplement to our school’s digital literacy lessons and gives me a reliable, ready-made resource I can trust. Most importantly, I know it’s helping to shape confident, responsible digital citizens as my students grow and spend more time online.
