The final tour stop in Canada of 2018 brought Grow with Google to Iqaluit. Over four days, Googlers delivered hands-on workshops at Joamie Ilinniarvik School, the Pinnguaq Makerspace and the library.

At Iqaluit Centennial Library, the event began with a traditional qulliq lighting by a community elder, and featured bilingual training materials in Inuktitut and English. Since internet connectivity can be a challenge in the region, we partnered with the Google Waterloo office to pilot a solution to deliver CS First activities entirely offline. Workshops included Coding for Kids, Intro to Email, Spreadsheets and Presentations, and best practices for getting found on Google Search and Maps.

It was great to be back in Nunavut. Google was also in the territory in 2012 to improve the Google maps of Canada’s Arctic, and in 2015 with the Codemakers program. Thank you for the warm welcome!
