The sun came out over the harbour just in time to welcome 300 enthusiastic small business owners and entrepreneurs to Grow with Google Halifax. And truly enthusiastic they were: registration reached capacity more than three weeks ahead of the event!

Attendees mingled with representatives from 12 different community organizations, and had the chance to meet Tareq Hadhad, CEO of Peace by Chocolate. He introduced this Grow with Google video featuring his family’s story as Syrian refugees to Nova Scotia, especially poignant given we were at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. From Google Search to Google Analytics, Peace by Chocolate relies on digital marketing to connect with customers around the world, as the company experiences 150% growth year over year.

Also helping celebrate Grow with Google Halifax were Grade 6 students at Eastern Passage Education Centre who learned about coding using CS First by Google (April 25). Over the next few months, 90 Halifax School Board District teachers will be trained to use the program in their classrooms. For the wider community, a $125k Google.org grant will support Canada Learning Code's Halifax Chapter deliver 100 hours of in-person digital skills training for local entrepreneurs.
