Frequently asked questions
Business intelligence (BI) uses various processes and tools to turn raw data into easy-to-understand, actionable information. Organizations rely on this information to make better strategic and operational business decisions.
Business intelligence analysts create processes and information channels that transform data into actionable insights that can inform business decisions. Some example problems for BI include measuring performance, tracking revenue or spending, and monitoring progress.
Data analytics and BI share a lot of common ground: They are both fields in which professionals use data to create insights that inform decision-making. Data analysts share insights via a report while BI professionals build a dashboard for stakeholders to monitor themselves. BI is more focused on making data readily available and easily understandable by organizational leaders. BI professionals retrieve and prepare data from multiple sources to then create reports and dashboards that make the data - and insights from the data - easily accessible.
